Words Mean Things

8/30/2015

The books of the books.

Who would ever say that?

Actually, I hear that quite a bit in church - just phrased a little different:

The books of the Bible.

How old should we be to gain the knowledge that Bible means books?

Typically on the spine it will say The Holy Bible. That means The Set Apart Books.

Words mean things - even when we don't know what they mean.

Perhaps I should pause at this point to ask that infamous Hillary question - What difference does it make?

Well, when is a sin no longer a sin?

Do we have a vote? Does it need to be unanimous or just a majority or super-majority?

Or does is stop being a sin after we commit it for a number of times, or years, or generations?

From what I've read, a sin has always been a sin and will always be a sin. What changes is the consequences of the sin.

Let's use the first murder as an example. Cain sinned when he slew Abel. God had not yet given a law regarding murder and prohibited others from taking Cain's life for the murder of Abel.

We know for sure that after the flood that God provided that shedding man's blood required capital punishment.

Some contend that Jesus put an end to capital punishment in John 8.

Let's examine that.

First, that first part of John 8 does not appear in the earliest manuscripts. I would think that added verses should be ignored and that would be the end of the argument.

But let's examine it as is.

Remember this was a trap set so that Jesus would fail regardless of the selection he was given.

One is a matter of Jewish law. The man and woman are to be brought together for trial and punishment. The proceedings should have been stopped until the man involved in the adultery was present.

The other issue is that of Roman law. I've been taught that under Roman law, capital punishment can only be carried out by the State.

Either way Jesus would have a legal problem, but he found another way. This is how it was with the other tests as well.

Regardless of what the punishment should be in order to protect society, we have the choice to repent or not repent.

Words mean things.

I'm borrowing the next lesson from The Financial State of the Union:

Never stop learning. Sometimes the hardest part is unlearning something that was wrong.

Like most of you I learned about the Ten Commandments when I was young, even before I started school. In the King James Version, and in many modern translations, one of those Commandments is presented as “Thou shall not kill.”

I could make an argument that that’s a reasonable presentation for a child. The problem is I had to learn as an adult several decades later that I was given a poor translation. The word translated as “kill” really means murder.

It’s true that all murder is killing, but not all killing is murder. Killing someone by accident is not murder, neither is killing in a war, self-defense, or as capital punishment. How much strife and division have occurred just through the poor translation of this one word?

Because of my ignorance, I couldn’t even point out someone’s using that Commandment in a faulty way.

Life is a learning experience. If you think you’ve learned enough, you haven’t learned your lesson yet.
Sooner or later in my books, we get around to discussing the actions we should take for our future. I hope that when we part you have a clearer picture about what’s best for you and yours.

I'm not sure there's enough time to write another book. That's why I'm doing this as a series of reports.

This post was created for discussion on the August 31st show of USA Prepares.

I think everyone knows the names of the month, but let me ask you about the numbers of the months.

Based on the numbers of the months, what month is it?

I'd bet the answer would be the number 8.

Would anyone give me a 6?

Not all the months were named. The last month named was August after Augustus Cesar. The previous month was named for Julius (July) giving us two months were names after Roman emperors that, like Pharaohs, were god on Earth.

Let's explore the other names:

January - named after Janus, the two faced god.
February - Februus was the god of purification and the Februa (day of purification) was on the ides of February.
March - named for Mars, the god of war.
April - may be from aperire "to bloom" or from Aphro, from the Greek Aphrodite (Venus).
May - for Maia, goddess of spring, wife of Vulcan.
June - named after the godess Juno.

That does it for the named months. The rest are:

September - the 7th (sept) month.
October - Oct the 8th month.
November - 9th month (novem).
December - the 10th (dec) month.

Before it was renamed, August was the 6th month, meaning the first month of the year on our Pagan calendar is March. That's right, our calendar leads off dedicated to the god of war. We seem to honor that all too well.

If the months aren't Pagan enough for you, check out the days of the week:

Sunday - after all the sun is #1.
Monday - for the moon.
Tuesday - Germanic Tiu, or from Latin languages - Mardi, again honoring Mars the god of war.
Wednesday - Stems from Norse influence - Woden’s Day. The equivalent of Mercurius (Mercury).
Thursday - Norse again - Thor aka Iuppiter (Jupiter).
Friday - the last Norse influence - Freya the goddess of love, in the Roman pantheon, Venus.
Saturday - after the old god Saturn.

We really do a good job of honoring these gods and goddesses, don't we?

Some would say it doesn't matter to the modern Christian, because we're not really worshiping these gods.

What does the Bible say? The first commandment is thou shall not have other gods before me?

While Bill Clinton might wonder what is is, we need to look at what before is.

In English, before can be referring to order - you can have other gods, but I have to be #1. Before can also mean in my presence - like Thanksgiving where you have a feast laid out before you.

Drilling down to the Hebrew word for before doesn't help as we're left with the same two possibilities.

The answer can be found a few chapters later in Exodus concerning foreign gods -  do not even speak their names.

I haven't heard that in a Sunday School lesson or a sermon, have you?

When is a sin no longer a sin?

How do you repent without repenting?

Words mean things.

Stupid Voters And Useful Idiots

8/24/2015

Before we get started, let's see where these terms come from.

"Stupid Voters" is the term that Democrat and Obamacare architect Jonathan Gruber used to describe those that loved the lies and helped get Obamacare passed.

"Useful Idiots" is how Communist Russia described those that aid in the destruction of their own country.

I'd hoped when all the Jonathan Gruber "stupid voter" videos late last year that the stupid voters would get upset about being called stupid voters and start to rebel against their democratic overlords.

Apparently stupid voters are too stupid to figure out that they're stupid voters.

Unfortunately, it's not any different on the Republican side. We can look to the example of the "Patriot" Act passed after 9/11 that takes away our freedoms so we can FEEL safer. Not that much was done for us to actually BE safer.

I spent 3 years in Germany (1982-5) where I experienced terrorism (and American servicemen were targeted much of the time). If the government had been serious, the borders would've been secured, and you wouldn't see outside mail boxes, trash cans, or fire extinguishers hanging on the wall - all places to easily place bombs.

It was also about that time that I heard that there was more turnover in the Soviet Politburo than in the US Congress. Whether you want to call it stupid, clueless, or mind controlled - the problem has been with us a long time.

We could look at the Communist Manifesto from 1848 and the 10 planks to turn a western nation Communist. That's been quite successful.

More recently we had the 45 Communist goals read into the Congressional Record in 1963. Again we see a pattern of success.

In case you think those were just western propaganda, check out the interview with Soviet defector Yuri Bezmenov from 1984. In this he talks about successful the demoralization program was.

At least in 1984 there were still some morals left. I was living in Germany from late 1982 until late 1985. I was shocked upon my return to see how much the culture had changed. I refer to it as "the Madonnazation of America."

He also talks about the "useful idiots" that contribute to the destruction of the country's culture. They believe they'll be rewarded for their service, but they will learn that such things are not tolerated in a Communist country.

There is also another video of him discussing psychological warfare. Again we can see just how successful the attack on America has been.

We like to blame the politicians, but the fault lies with the stupid voters and useful idiots that let the politicians off the short leash that our Constitution provided.

I'd be remiss if I didn't add the spiritual component.

In my research on what led us to where we are, sooner or later I'd find a Satanic component such as with Marx and Darwin.

We seek solutions, but my research found those as well. God gave those to us a long time ago. We're just too technologically advanced and most Christians dismiss those "old" things.

We already have the answers from feeding the poor to the punishment of criminals, but today we are more tolerant and compassionate than God.

It's true we reap what we sow.

We should be praying to God for crop failure.

The Watchmen Of Ezekiel

8/23/2015

There are two types of watchmen described in Ezekiel.

Ezekiel 3 talks about the spiritual watchman. I'm about 99% of the way to declaring that if you're a Christian, then you are charged to be an Ezekiel 3 watchman.

Even if that's not the case, a devout atheist, Penn Jillette, has a perspective that all Christians should think about.

In this short 5 minute video, Penn talks about when a Christian wanted to give Penn a Bible. Rather than making fun of the Christian's beliefs, he praised his actions. The gist - if you believe what Christians believe, then how much do you have to hate someone to NOT share that with them.

Please share this video with your Christian friends (though you may want to apologize for stepping on a few toes).

We find the other watchman in Ezekiel 33 - this is the physical watchman.

Here we find the watchman on the wall keeping lookout for coming threats. When he sees the approaching sword, he is to alert the people so that they can be ready to defend themselves.

I wish the modern Christian would learn from this example - that we are not to merely sit on our butts and pray, but to be ready (prepared if you like) for what's coming. Rather than be thankful for the warning, the watchman is belittled for lack of faith, and they expect God to do everything for them without having to lift a finger.

The path I followed resulted in me finding myself in the role of an Ezekiel 33 watchman. In case you wonder why I do what I do, you can find the explanation in that chapter.

While it is not the sword I see coming, the financial collapse that sits on our doorstep is just as deadly.

The last few years I've been sounding the warning - learn to raise your own food, have access to water and have the resources to make it safe to drink, and be in close proximity to others. Pretty close to the model we see in the Amish way of life.

It takes time to learn the skills our not too distant ancestors knew. I believe it's even more of a challenge to rebuild community even to the level it was just a few decades ago.

The signs say we're getting close to reaping the results of our financial (and spiritual) misdeeds. if you are not already in your community, raising all or most of your food, it's probably too late.

I'm not saying to not make preparations. To do nothing guarantees that you will be a victim.

The modern Christian has become quite friendly with this world. Which brings us back to the Ezekiel 3 watchman.

The advice I give in The Financial State of the Union is not about preserving your wealth. Most is about preserving your life, but the top of the list is "have your spiritual house in order." Perhaps that should be a bit clearer:

Repent - and make sure you are among the wise virgins.
